New info added 10-7-14
The end of July 2014 I was asked to help with creating a new website. The old GPSR site was then 7 years old and causing a lot of issues for Derrick Stokes. When Derrick built the site he used Microsoft FrontPage on a Windows XP machine. Well we all know that XP is no longer being supported by Microsoft and neither is FrontPage. We could still continue to use the site like it was but, every time Derrick needed to do any update he would have to set up an XP, just to edit the site. We all have benefitted and really appreciate what Derrick has done over the past 7 years and I look forward to working with him in the future.
With today’s technology there are so many options for websites it was really a no brainer to just start from scratch. Today’s sites are built using templates, meaning that you can change the look of the site without having to edit the text within the site. We can change the color schema very quickly to reflect holidays, events or other important occasions. Another great feature is that we can have multiple people editing and updating the site from their own locations. This will help keep the site up to date and looking good for years to come.
We choose a site call 1&1.com which at the time had a great sale of .99 cents per month for the first year, after that it will be 9.99 per month. The site is easy to set up and edit so we elect to go this route. Within a day we had the basic look of the site set and we began to add text and features to the new site. This took a few months for Clay and I to get the look and layout we liked, but at last we had it close to being ready to launch. We wanted to add all the news letters, but only had back to 2007. Bob S. had all the news letters back to the first issue in a hard copy, so Clay scanned all the missing issues to complete our archive. So if you want some old history it is now available on the website.
The 23rd of September I began the process of switching to internet records of to the new site. Here I sit waiting for the records to update. Will fill in from here. Hope you enjoy the new site!
10-7-14 well the site is now up and running. We are still in the process of updating the site, but are really close to having it maintainable. I am in need of some information from all the members, info like testimonials, some old pitchers of our younger days as teens and babies, past cars you loved with info on each. These pictures will be used in our fun facts area on future projects. Please send me the info when you get time.
Clay has been working hard to get pictures loaded of past events and getting them organized for your viewing. He has been learning a lot of new skills that he may or may not have wanted to know. J Either way we have a great president and I hope he realizes that we all really appreciate all that he does!
One thing that I believe will become a huge help to our club is the communication that currently is been most via email by Clay, can now be maintained on the website for all to see at any time. Clay will still be sending out announcements to all club members but if you can’t find it or just need a quick reminder the site will be a central hub of all communication.
